Fred Perry
Fred Perry was a famous English table tennis and tennis player who was born in Stockport on the 18th May 1909. Fred Perry went on to become Wimbledon champion on three occasions. Renowned for being the No.1 rated tennis player in the world, Fred Perry was unbeaten for a total of five years, with four consecutive unbeaten years between 1934 and 1938 and also the first 3 years as an accomplished amateur.
Fred Perry was the last British male tennis player to win any grand slam events within tennis, winning an outstanding eight Grand Slams.
Austrian Footballer Tibby Wegner joined forces with Fred Perry In the late 40's, to create the now world famous sweatband. The sporting duo went on to design and produce a white knitted cotton pique short sleeved sports shirts that incorporated buttons down the front of these shirts. The polo shirt was officially launched in 1952 at Wimbledon, becoming a great success. This was the birth of the Fred Perry clothing brand.
